The Department of Biomedicine is one of the universities. The context of our research and teaching includes all aspects of man as a living organism. We lay down fundamental knowledge for the formation and further professional growth of specialists in the field of medicine, biology, pharmacology and public health.

As part of the biochemistry section, the department develops in students modern knowledge about the molecular mechanisms of the healthy human body and the causes of their disruption in diseases. We teach how to apply knowledge of the biochemical constants of the human body in medical practice.

Within the field of biology, we rely on a systematic understanding of the molecular organization, metabolism and regulation of the vital functions of cells and tissues. Knowledge of basic biological processes is necessary for future specialists to understand the unity of all systems of the human body, both normally and in pathology.

Within the direction of microbiology, the department studies various microorganisms in nature and in the human body, their interaction with each other and their impact on human life.

Science

The Department of Biomedicine inherits and develops the rich scientific traditions of three departments: biological chemistry, biology and microbiology.

Over the past 10 years, employees of the department have taken part in projects according to the basic research plan of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Now one of the main major projects of the department is “Study of the interaction of a biocomposite based on nanocellulose in a model of a bone defect of a tubular bone in an in vivo experiment” (scientific supervisor - Akhmetova S. B., Candidate of Medical Sciences)

The department carries out master's and doctoral dissertations in various areas and consults dissertations for the PhD degree for doctoral students and master's students of other departments.

Публикации

Based on the results of scientific research, employees of the department published more than 10 monographs, more than 300 publications, including publications in the indexed databases of the Russian Science Citation Index, Scopus, Thomson-Reuter, etc. Pre-patents and innovative patents, certificates of registration of intellectual property objects have been obtained.
Our main research projects over the past 10 years:

  • 2012-2014
“Molecular mediators of the progression of diffuse and interstitial lung lesions” (Scientific supervisor – Muravleva L.E., Candidate of Biological Sciences, Professor); “Development of methods for drug correction of reproductive health disorders at the molecular-cellular level during helminthic infestation” (Scientific supervisor - Dosmagambetova R.S., Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor)

There are three student scientific clubs at the department.

  • SSC of Biochemistry is headed by Burdelnaya E.V. (burdelnaya@qmu.kz) , scientific direction - the study of changes in the composition of human biological fluids under the influence of various factors.
  • SSC of Microbiology is in charge by Nikolaeva A. B. (nikolaeva@qmu.kz), scientific direction - study of the biological properties of lactic acid bacteria, study of the comparative antimicrobial activity of tar and laundry soap, study of microbial contamination of disposable medical masks, study of the characteristics of biofilm formation by gram-positive microorganisms.
  • SSC Biology is headed by Rakhimova B.B. (rakhimova@qmu.kz), scientific direction - studying the influence of environmental factors of the Aral Sea on the reproductive system and general health of people, studying the influence of dust-salt aerosols of the Aral Sea region on the human body, studying the influence of microwave irradiation on the human body.

Education

The highly professional staff of the Department of Biomedicine creates the necessary conditions for organizing the educational process at the level of modern requirements. The department has accumulated significant experience in educational and methodological work. Situational tasks, modern laboratory tasks, tests, and clinical tasks are developed and applied.

A set of visual aids, educational tables, microslides, and biological preparations has been created. The collection of living cultures of microorganisms used in educational and scientific processes is being replenished.

Certificates of registration of intellectual property objects have been received for the author's programs in elective disciplines developed by the department's employees.
